Our Partnership with Organic Trade & Investments (OTI) in Ghana

SheaDrea is excited to share the news of our new partnership with Organic Trade & Investments (OTI), a respected agribusiness organization in Ghana dedicated to supporting small‑scale farmers, women‑led cooperatives, and sustainable production across the country. This collaboration marks an important step in our mission to deepen our connection to the communities behind our ingredients and to bring authentic, ethically sourced Ghanaian products to the Canadian market.

For years, OTI has worked closely with more than 12,000 small‑scale growers across Ghana, supporting sustainable agriculture, fair‑trade practices, and the export of high‑quality organic products. Our mission is to connect global markets with the richness of West African ingredients — ranging from shea butter and natural oils to moringa, hibiscus, black soap, fonio, and other premium raw materials. By empowering farmers and promoting biodiversity, we help create long‑term economic opportunities for rural communities while delivering exceptional products to businesses worldwide.

Connecting With the Heart of Shea Production in Wa

During our recent visit to Wa in Ghana’s Upper West Region, we had the privilege of witnessing shea butter production at its source. We met with more than 40 women who contribute to different stages of the traditional shea‑making process — from gathering and drying the nuts to roasting, milling, and hand‑whipping the butter. We also toured areas where new machinery has been introduced to support their work, easing some of the most physically demanding steps while preserving the integrity and heritage of the craft. This experience strengthened our appreciation for the skill, dedication, and community that shape every batch of shea butter.

Exploring Herbal‑Infused Shea Butter

Our visit also allowed us to observe how OTI’s herbal‑infused shea butter is created. The vibrant yellow variety is made by infusing shea butter with the root of the borotutu plant, a traditional botanical valued for its soothing and revitalizing properties. Even in the production of unrefined shea butter, purity remains essential—no bleach, additives, or chemicals are used, only carefully controlled heat to maintain the natural integrity of the butter.

Expanding Access to Ghanaian Products in Canada

Beyond shea butter, OTI works with a wide network of small‑scale, women‑led manufacturers who produce a range of natural goods, including the renowned African Black Soap. Through our partnership, SheaDrea will help bring these products to Canadian businesses, offering both traditional bar soaps and liquid black soap in a variety of natural scents. This collaboration allows us to support sustainable livelihoods in Ghana while providing Canadian formulators, retailers, and wellness brands with direct access to high‑quality, ethically sourced ingredients.

A Shared Commitment to Sustainable Growth

At SheaDrea, we believe that meaningful partnerships are essential to building a responsible and sustainable supply chain. Joining forces with OTI reflects our commitment to transparency, community empowerment, and the celebration of traditional craftsmanship. We are honoured to be part of this mission and look forward to growing together as we bring the best of Ghana to Canada.

Companies interested in purchasing these raw materials or exploring wholesale opportunities are welcome to reach out to us directly — we would be happy to support your sourcing needs and introduce you to the richness of Ghanaian natural products.
